$10 gives sight to the blind

$50 protects 5 children from HIV

You can give a blind person the gift of sight!

Please help us provide a surgical microscope for cataract removal.

Sight for the Blind:
Cataracts are a major cause of blindness at Macha. With an operating microscope for cataract surgery, many of the blind at Macha will be able to see.

At Left: Dr. Spurrier doing a cataract removal using a surgical microscope borrowed from Dr. Wiafe.

Below: Patients after cataract removal. In about 10 days their eye patches will be removed and their vision will be restored.

One Patients Story: In 2001, a woman in her 60's came to Macha. Her cataracts were so bad that she couldn't even see the light from a flashlight shining in her eyes. Dr. Waife had come from Lusaka with an operating microscope and he and Dr. Spurrier removed the cataract from one of her eyes. After 10 days, I (Lloyd Williams) took her bandages off and asked what she could see. She immediately responded "Makua", which means white person. The whole ward laughed with her and then shared her tears of joy as she went on to say, "the sunlight, my daughter, my path."

Please help others like her experience the gift of restored sight.
